Description of the research topic:

"Within the framework of our research a deep investigation of Jassic (jász) and Cuman (kun) Medieval populations – primarily from the Middle Tisza region (Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County) will be performed about their migration and assimilation into the local medieval Hungarian populations.
the basis of our work will be the craniometric traits of the analysed anthropological materials within the framework of this project from 13th-16th centuries in order to reveal migration patterns of these Eastern origin populations before and their final settling.
Furthermore, this work can lead to new data regarding the biological relationships of Jassic, Cuman and local medieval people . Paleopathological, epidemiological and demographic investigations are the key elements to get a comprehensive view about how the biological adaptation to the new environment and to the settled lifeform affected the health and life quality of the Cuman and Jassic populations.. It can be suggested that the change to sedentary life had influence on diet and on the frequency of infectious diseases due to the increased population density . Specific infections diagnosed in the anthropological series can be the basis of a future paleomicrobiological analyses. Several pathological changes (e.g. enthesopathies, oral pathological processes, traumatic patterns, degenerative joint diseases and general/specific inflammatory processes) can be used as stress markers to shed light on the relationship between lifestyle changes and general state of health.
Our research could have an important role for historians and archaeologists as providing additional data to answering certain questions. In our topic there is an agreement among researchers that the recent region known as Jászság (Province of the Jassic people) was already inhabited by Jász people in the middle of 14th Century, but the circumstances of their exact arriving to Hungary, and their relationship with Cumans is still an opened question.
This doctoral work would be based on a complex comparative analysis of the human remains of local inhabitants with contemporary Jassic and Cuman populations."
