Description of the research topic:

The higher-ordered, multispecies bacterial biofilms could be a higher unit of evolution, even though the participants can turn over: important is "the song, not the singer". This hypothesis should be validated by taking the spatial structure of population, cell adhesion, qourum sensing and horizontal gene transfer into account.
