Description of the research topic:
Nowadays safety of the entire food production chain is of great importance worldwide. Shortening the production process is becoming a key factor in this respect, and especially in urban areas entirely controlled local/home vegetable production solutions can have strong perspective. Research of the operational conditions of a home vegetable box (a small scale automated green house), its agro-technology (input material control, conditioning, energy balance) and the appropriate IT solutions (sensors, actuators, process control) can lead to a working prototype. This device can be used also in further studies on investigating different features of small scale biosystems engineering (fertilizing, irrigation, growth monitoring) using advance modelling techniques. This research can be integrated into the ongoing AgIT FIEK project that is aiming at developing new IT solutions for smart farming.
