Description of the research topic:
Pavement structural capacity (bearing capacity) is the most complex condition parameter of road pavement structures. It is a major input for the design of new structures and pavement reha-bilitation. Its realistic forecast is a major challenge due to the complexity and interrelationship of its influencing factors.
Proposed topic of PhD thesis:
• literature survey in the topic comparing and evaluating the approaches and their results obtained sofar,
• requirements imposed on structural capacity in network and project level Pavement Management Systems,
• assessment of eventual relationship between pavement structural capacity and other condition parameters (such as surface defects, longitudinal and transversal evenness, skid resistance),
• assessment of the parameters (like quality of pavement design, construction, maintenance, operation, as well as traffic, time, temperature, moisture content) influencing pavement bearing capacity evolution,
• proposed model of pavement structural capacity assessment and forecast,
• validation of the model using actual Hungarian data time series.
