THESIS TOPIC PROPOSAL

Thesis supervisor: Péter Gálfi
Location of studies (in Hungarian): University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest
Abbreviation of location of studies: ÁTE

Description of the research topic:

Lipopolisaccharide and hydrogen peroxide-induced oxidative stress causes serious cell-and tissue damage, which leads to the generation of different diseases (coronary heart disease, inflammatory bowel disease, cancer etc.). The goal of this Ph.D. study is to investigate the possible preventive effects of bifidobacteria, lactic acid bacteria and their metabolic products against LPS and hydrogen peroxide-induced oxidative stress. Cytokine (e.g. IL-8) production related to inflammatory processes, expression of stress proteins (Hsp 70), their regulations and signal transduction mechanisms will be studied in the experiments. Furthermore different types of cell deaths and the possibility of their prevention and xenobiotic metabolism will be also investigated
