Description of the research topic:

There are many transient processes during the production of hydrocarbons from reservoirs: intermittent Gas Lifting, Liquid loading, etc. The present calculation and design methods have limited usability due to their in-accuracy.
There is a great potential to develop new methods for modelling and design using the emerging numerical simulation technics (CFD and FEM). Great challenges in the development of such a new models are:
- the unavailability of the right material model describing the phase behavior of hydrocarbon mixtures with proper accuracy and small calculation requirement to be applicable in a complex numerical flow simulation model;
- the proper multiphase flow model applicable for the extreme situations prevails in hydrocarbon wells.
