Description of the research topic:
Many life-threatening arrhythmias are caused by repolarization disorders. In the frame of the present work the contribution of different transmembrane ion currents to cardiac repolarization and to the repolarization reserve is studied. The role of these ion currents in the arrhythmia mechanism and the opportunity of its pharmacological modulation are also investigated. The experiments are performed by cellular electrophysiological methods – patch-clamp and conventional microelectrode techniques – in mammalian cardiac muscle preparations and isolated myocytes as well as in expression systems.
