Description of the research topic:

We seek outstanding PhD candidates interested in ethnoecology. The research will cover the study of ecological knowledge of local herders on plants, vegetation, and landscape; with special focus on the use and management of natural resources in Mongolia, compared with some other Eurasian countries. Key methods of the research are interviewing and participatory observation in the studied human communities, accompanied by vegetation surveys and landscape historical reconstructions. The expected results are directly useful in vegetation science, landscape ecology, nature conservation and environmental education. The general purpose is to strengthen the cooperation between academic science, and traditional and indigenous knowledge systems, as it is vital in the future of nature conservation and sustainability.

Required language skills: fluent English (at least B2)
Further requirements: 
MSc degree in ecological, environmental sciences or ecological anthropology.Experience in interviewing and botanical field work is preferred
