Thesis supervisor: László Molnár
Location of studies (in Hungarian): Univ. Pécs Faculty of Sciences Institute of Biology
Abbreviation of location of studies: UP

Description of the research topic:

Earthworm species have enormous capacities to regenerate extirpated parts of their central nervous system e.g. the dissected cerebral ganglion will be renewed within 3 weeks of surgical removal. During the genetically determined regeneration the original size, form and pattern of the cerebral ganglion will be restored. The molecular genetic basis, histological and cytological background of this biological phenomenon is not known in details. The planned project focuses on the identification and characterization of key molecules (both transcripts and proteins) that are involved in the regeneration; and morphological analyses of neural tissue differentiation from stem cells.

Applied methods: RNA isolation, cDNA library construction, PCR, in situ hybridization, light and electron microscopic histochemistry

Required language skills: English
Further requirements:
MSc degree in Biology

Number of students who can be accepted: 1

Deadline for application: 2018-05-25
