Description of the research topic:

The most important task of the muscle cells is the contraction, which is initiated by the action potential from the nerve cells. The process from the trigger signal to the contraction called elecrto-mechanical (e.m.) coupling.
The most important second messenger is Ca2+ in this process, and several other protein play also roll in it. The topic of the PhD proposal is to gather new information about the role of Ca2+ and the key membrane proteins (i.e. ryanodine receptor, dyhidropyridine receptor ) of the e.m. coupling with the development of new measurements technics. Furthermore, we will explore the genetical modification in these proteins and the associated molecules involved in e.m. coupling.
We expect from the applicant the knowledge of the muscle physiology, the basic of optical measurement of ion-concentrations, the fundamental molecular biological techniques of protein detection.
