Description of the research topic:

The economic and social characteristics of former „Socialist” countries before 1989/1990. The early steps of economic reforms, from centrally planned system to a less rigid framework. The spatial structure of economy before the regime change. Development and underdevelopment as a phenomena under the socialist regime. The legal and institutional framework of regime change and its economic consequences: privatisation process, founding boom in entrepreneurship, attracting FDI to emerge structural changes in economies. The chnaging economic structure by sectors after the shocking regime change. Spatial consequences of economic crisis (rust belts, deindustrialisation etc.). Stabilisation and economic growth from the mid-1990s, and the reasons behind. Emerging dependency from the global economic actors and framework. The effect of EU-accession period on economic development: development sources in improving institutional change, infrastrctural developments, rural development, CBC-Programmes, and the use of additional sources. New wave of economic (and regional) planning? the conflict between planning and market-led processes. The newly emerging spatial inequalitiies before global crisis. East Europe in the global economic crisis, spatial and sectoral changes. Emerging new economic paradigm. The spatial structure of East European economies after 30 years.
