Description of the research topic:

Modeling cloud and IoT systems for distributed systems simulation has been a challenge for more than a decade now, the area has became even more challenging as some of these systems are used across the world often incorporating billions of computing and networking devices. Research is expected to focus on investigating the landscape of these large scale systems (e.g., from the point of view of their energy consumption, use of virtualisation and middleware technologies) and analysing discrepancies between real world entities (like sensors, low power computing devices) and their simulated counterparts in current state of the art simulators. Based on the identified shortcomings, the student is expected to deliver new models for particular components in these large scale systems and implement them in a distributed systems simulation solution.

Number of students who can be accepted: 1
