Developing novel strategies against antibiotic resistant pathogens using synthetic biological tools

THESIS TOPIC PROPOSAL

Institute: University of Szeged
biology
Doctoral School of Biology

Thesis supervisor: Csaba Pál
Location of studies (in Hungarian): Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Biological Research Center of Szeged, Synthetic and System Biology Group
Abbreviation of location of studies: SzBK

Description of the research topic:

The deciphering of the evolution of multidrug-resistent pathogens is crucial to be able to effectively prevent diseases. The rapid improvements of synthetic biology and genome-engineering provides us with an unprecedent opportunity to discover the mechanisms underlying the evolution of bacterial species, as well as to develop novel strategies thought to be impossible before. Our research includes state-of-the art genome editing methods – like the one our group developed and published in 2016 in the proceedings of the national academy of sciences (PNAS)- and the utilization of the newest tools of synthetic biology.
