Description of the research topic:

Forests cover 33% of Europe’s total land area and are generally considered to support high biodiversity (Ozanne et al. 2003). The intensive forest management during the last century has transformed a significant portion of European natural forests into even-aged plantations, typically monocultures of native or exotic tree species. Plantation forests generally characterized by lower diversity and fewer specialist species than natural forests, however numerous studies demonstrated the capacity of plantation forests to provide habitat for forest invertebrates. The task of the phd student will be to show the effect of (1) tree species on the ground-dwelling invertebrate fauna, (2) landscape composition and configuration on the species richness and functional diversity
