New conflicts and modern technology make persuasion more efficient than before. The verbal tools of persuasion used nowadays have been known since ancient times, however their effectiveness is multiplied by the fluid environment. The inventory of influence activities used in hybrid operations and especially in the social media has also been enlarged in the changeable online environment, so it can individually impact decision-makers as well as citizens. Revealing the requires interdisciplinary approach which comprises the results of, among others, linguistics, military science, media studies, psychology and propaganda research. Developing resilience against effective online deception is a priority both for the EU and NATO. In order to achieve this, the description of the tools and impacts of online influence operations need in-depth research.
