Justification of the research topic:
Global climate change, pollution of all elements of the environment, depletion of environmental resources in addition to the increasing demand towards more environmental conscious thinking and energy rationalization on all areas of life have great effects to the application of military forces. On one hand armies also suffer from the negative environmental changes, on the other hand they are one of the greatest consumers and polluters thru their activities even in peacetime. Research in this field can provide more environmental friendly solutions concerning military activities that can result decreasing ecological footstep of the army.
Objectives:
• Investigation of actual problems of environmental security.
• Investigation of the military as a consumer and polluter.
• Research of the effects of negative environmental changes to the military operations.
• Research in modernization of energy structure and consumption of the Hungarian Defence Forces.

Research methods:
• Investigation of the related literature.
• Adaptation of international experiences.
• Research and development of databases and other electronic support sources.
• Survey of existing energy demand of the military, formation of database.
• Development and adaptation of modern technical solutions to decrease energy consumption and pollution and waste emissions.
• Development of existing command, structural, technical and other aspects of the HDF to be more environmental friendly.
New scientific results to be achieved:
1. Mapping of actual problems of environmental security.
2. Assessment of environmental impacts of military operations.
3. Determination of effects of actual environmental changes to military operations
4. Solutions for modernization of energy structure and consumption of the Hungarian Defence Forces.
5. Recommendations of energy-efficient solutions for the Hungarian Defence Forces.
