ARDS (acute respiratory distress syndrome) is an acute, severe, diffuse lung injury, where due to increased lung capillary permeability protein-rich fluid transports to alveoli, causing decreased breathing surface and hypoxaemia in the whole body. Even to this day ARDS has a high mortality (25-40%). Covid-19 infection can cause viral pneumonia, ARDS and multi-organ failure. Internationally validated scoring system of the damage’s severeness is the CTSI (computed tomography severety index), however there is not enough information about the connection between CTSI and the course and outcome of the disease. Volume of breathing lung, rate of intact and damaged lung can be measured by a software dedicated to thorax CT examination, lung volumetry.
We aim to analyse the correlation among the results of lung volumetry measurements in ARDS related to Covid and not related to Covid and numerous clinical parameters, such as period of ventillation, invasivity and complication of ventillation, other organ failures, length of ICU and hospital stay, 30-day mortality. Our research is a retrospective and prospective study with 25-25 patients as a pilot study, and later on to be expanded until 50-50 patients.
