COVID-19 infection usually does not show severe neurological symptoms. In most long COVID patients, however, symptoms are suggestive of neurological/nervous system dysfunction. The most prominent of these are persistent taste and smell disturbances, but also migrating pain, fatigue and "brain fog". There is currently no explanation for these latter symptoms. As COVID is likely to infect the whole population, long COVID is a serious public health issue, as 10-60% of patients may develop chronic neurological symptoms after the acute phase. Our studies include healthy people who have undergone COVID and patients presenting to our post-COVID outpatient clinic with long COVID. The PhD work will include neurological examination, psychological testing and MRI scans in patients with Long COVID. MRI scans will be analysed using quantitative MRI methods. We are therefore looking for applications from medical doctors, health professionals, biologists, physicists or psychologists for the PhD work. Our aim is to investigate the long-lasting neurological effects of COVID, to shed light on the cause of long COVID and to offer treatment possibilities.
