Orthopedic surgery is one of the most frequently performed types of surgical procedures wordwide, and the number of procedures is increasing together with the trend of the increase in the elderly population. Prior studies show that hypnosis can help people undergoing surgical procedures for example by reducing pain, anxiety, and bleeding associated with the procedure, and by improving recovery. However, rigorous studies are needed to establish efficacy in the area of orthopedic surgeries. Also, there is a lack of knowledge about the factors that influence the take-up of such interventions in the population, such as knowledge and attitudes about, and willingness to use such procedures. The research will aim to explore these topics.
