A kutatási téma leírása:

Research facilities producing particles suitable for special kinds of nuclear activation are in continuous development in terms of particle energy and intensity. Structural materials that may coincide with induced neutron and proton beams e.g. biological shielding are subject to nuclear reactions and generation of often unusual types of radioactivity; the prediction of these radiation fields are of high importance in radiation protection planning. Methods of experimental validation of modelling calculations are to be elaborated and tested even though in most cases the facilities providing irradiation fields are considerably different from the ones which are still under construction. Optimization of procedures like material sample collection and preparation are required for selecting appropriate methods of radioanalysis of various material samples of different shape, volume and density. Testing of potential biological shielding materials will pose calibration and inhomogeneity issues that have to be resolved. Modelling with Monte Carlo calculations and semi-empirical methods for obtaining realistic efficiency calibration functions can be sufficient for “regular” cases but their applicability with respect to densities and material compositions significantly different from these properties of the calibrations sources needs detailed studies.
