Near critical and supercritical fluids are applied already for various processes in industrial scales, and a wide range of possible future applications were already demonstrated in the laboratories. Pressurised hot water is advantageous for ion catalysed reaction in the subcritical region and for radial reactions in the supercritical region; thus, this simple solvent enables a wide range of different reactions for the valorisation of wastes. Communal or industrial wastes and biomass is a source of energy and potential raw materials for the chemical industries. Based on our industry-initiated preliminary project, pressurised hot water is an excellent media for controlled degradation of waste biomass of high water content to form biooil, biochar or biogas. The goal of the research project is to understand and describe the fundamentals of such a process involving pressurised hot water. Semi-continuous and continuous laboratory scale equipment are to be used for the experimental investigations and the samples are to be analysed by chromatographic methods. Detailed chemical analysis of the products correlated to the process conditions and the raw material is envisaged using advanced statistical methods. Based on the developed mathematical model support the scale-up studies. As a final outcome, the scaled-up process is going to be used for the validation of the model.
