Research topic description:
Studies and research on business ethics began in the United States about fifty years ago. In the ‘90s, Kindler and Zsolnai (1993) published a comprehensive study on the impact of ethics on the economy. Later, Boda and Radácsi (2002) emphasised the function of ever-increasing social expectations in the development of business ethics, pointing out that not only the environment but corporate leaders themselves demanded the standardisation of ethical norms for dealing with moral contradictions (Varsányi, 2006).
The emergence of the idea of business ethics in the 1980s was a revolutionary paradigm shift. Along with maximising profits, ethical business behaviour became important. The social audit of The Body Shop, Shell’s so-called ‘People, Planet and Profit’ strategy and the spread of CSR programs are linked to this period. This is the period of the flourishing of business ethics. (Crane – Matten, 2016; Zsolnai, 2015). Ethical organisational operation is based on ethical leadership, a key element of which is trust. In these market conditions, ethical organisational behaviour is essential, considering either B2B or C2B relationships.
Decades of research have highlighted the central role of trust in successful organisational operation. (Ellonen et al., 2008; Gilbert and Tang, 1998; Wech, 2002). The beginning of the study of workplace trust dates back to the early sixties of the last century, which has become increasingly popular in scientific research (Tan - Lim, 2009; Paliszkiewicz et al., 2014).
According to Govier, (1994) trust is an attitude based on beliefs and values that generally mean feelings and behaviours. Trust is important not only because it makes social interactions possible, but also because it nurtures ethics. From the age of barter business solutions to the Bitcoin, business relationships are based on trust. Without trust, which is the basis of ethical behaviour, neither business relationships nor any other relationship would work (Byars, Stanberry, 2018).
At a micro level, trust is linked to the following factors: employee satisfaction performance, behaviour, team work, leadership efficiency, the perception of human resource management, successful negotiations, communication, commitment, ethical behaviour, corporate partner relationships, etc. On this basis, it is considered to be a fundamental influential factor in the internal operation of organisations. At a macro level, trust is a driving force behind organisational changes and survival, corporate collaboration, strategic partnerships and mergers, or acquisitions (Fulmer and Gelfand, 2012).
For years, the concept of knowledge-based economy, and knowledge-based organisations has been at the centre of thinking. This also means that human resources and knowledge have become the most significant organisational resources, as well as assets. The basic units of knowledge-based economy are knowledge-oriented organisations, whose functioning may be characterised by the features of learning organisation culture. Characteristics include trust, which is key to successful functioning.
Most of the earlier studies have examined these factors separately, but logical connection presented above clarifies the relationship between factors mentioned in the title of the research topic.
The research task is to find and identify the interfaces and summarise them in a research model. By setting up the model, it becomes possible to define the parameters to be examined and to detect relationships.
It is worth examining the combined effects of factors in case of knowledge-oriented organisations, as trust-based organisational culture is of key importance for organisations where knowledge plays a key role in successful functioning. The novelty of the research is the development of the relationship network model and the demonstration of effects.
Sampling and the collection of research samples was based on the database of the Statistical Office, with the assistance of the Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

Preliminaries of research topic:
Previous research studies are in research history, which examine the effects of trust upon organisational functioning, and are linked to the conditions of ethical leadership and ethical organisational operation. There are a number of preceding research results related to knowledge management and learning organisation operation.
