In order to be able to support allied joint operations it is important to know the strategic context, in particular the underlying theory and principles of that sort of operations. Although each operation is unique, their planning and conduct can be approached in the same manner. It is important to provide commanders and their staff with a common framework for understanding the approach to all Alliance operations, and to provide them with the principles and general guidance to plan and conduct campaigns and operations.
