The biogenetic model of Reward Deficiency Syndrome (Blum et al., 1996) proposes a set of molecular and psychological factors underlying a range of impulsive, compulsive and addictive behaviors. We aim to investigate RDS from multiple perspectives, uncovering psychological, behavioral and physiological correlates.
The RDS phenomena highlights common susceptibility factors in the background of different substance use and behavioral addictions. Subtopics: 1) exploration of RDS questionnaire in both substance users and participants with potentially addictive behaviors; 2) exploration of the RDS trait and personality traits associated with addictions, such as impulsivity and novelty seeking; 3) exploration of RDS trait and cognitive disinhibition measures; 4) explore unique electrodermal activity patterns. Investigate in a sub-sample of high RDS participants, whether raising self-awareness using feedback on their electrodermal activity helps them to learn to reduce the magnitude of sympathetic responses to addiction related stimuli.
