A kutatási téma leírása:
Detection and decomposition of pollutants, preparation of novel and cheaper green catalysts are environmental research priorities, and the project aims to obtain materials capable to perform these tasks. During the project, semiconductor oxide (e.g. WO3, TiO2, ZnO, Al2O3) nanoparticles, nanotubes, nanofibers, nanosheets, porous nanostructures; metal (e.g. Ag, Au) nanoparticles and functionalized carbon nanostructures (e.g. carbon nanotube, fullerene, graphene oxide, carbon nanospheres) will be synthesized. They will be coated with semiconductor oxide (e.g. ZnO, AL2O3, TiO2) and metal (pl. Ag, Pd, Pt, Cu) nanofilms and nanoparticles. To achieve these, atomic layer deposition (ALD), annealing, hydrothermal, sol-gel and electrospinning synthesis methods will be used. The as-obtained nanocomposites will be studied in gas sensing, photocatalysis, catalysis, fuel cells, nanofluids. The influence of the composition, morphology and structure of the nanostructures on the applications will be analyzed.
The PhD students will obtain experience with leading preparation methods of nanostructures, and with the most important analytical tools of materials science and nanotechnology (XRD, SEM-EDX, TEM-ED-EELS, AFM, XPS, Raman, FTIR, NMR, TG/DTA-MS, etc). The PhD students will have the opportunity to take part in international research work, visit foreign collaborating laboratories and participate at domestic and international conferences.
