New variety with high yield, biotic and abiotic stresses tolerance and good quality are required in modern plant production within a short period. In cereals, doubled haploid (DH) plant production methods can be applied for the production of homozygous lines. This is the main reason that these methods are in the focus of research and modern plant breeding strategies.
In wheat, Wide hybridization and AC are applied frequently in breeding programs and applied research, while IMC is still under development. The anther culture were applied successful in some plant breeding programmes. According to some relevant critics, albinism and genotype dependency are mentioned as a bottleneck of anther culture in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.).
In durum wheat (Triticum durum L.), the androgenesis induction was reported but the practical application of this methods need more improvements. The production of embryos and green plantlets are significantly lower than in case of bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.).
