Short description of the research:
History of developments in optimization algorithms used in the engineering practice, overview of the last 120 years.
Exploring the working of some very efficient optimization algorithms, programming and applying them for a simple benchmark problem.
Selection of the machine element to be optimized. Most important characteristics of the element and steps of the design.
Elaboration and definition of the optimization task of the selected machine element.
Solution of the optimization task, numerical results, conclusions to the original structure, most important improvements, achievements.
Some possible machine elements to be optimized:
- Connecting elements (bolts, screws, etc.)
- Flexible drives (Belt, chain, etc.)
- Gears
- Shaft- bearing systems
- Springs
- etc.
