A kutatási téma leírása:

The European XFEL is a research facility of superlatives: It generates
ultrashort X-ray flashes—27 000 times per second and with a brilliance
that is a billion times higher than that of the best conventional X-ray
radiation sources.
Smaller, faster, more intense: The European XFEL is opening up areas of
research that were previously inaccessible. Using the X-ray flashes of the
European XFEL, scientists will be able to map the atomic details of viruses,
decipher the molecular composition of cells, take three-dimensional
images of the nanoworld, film chemical reactions, and study processes
such as those occurring deep inside planets.

An obstacle in the development of control and data analysis software in
XFEL is that the data generating hardware under control needs to be
available for any kind of testing. This is a particular challenge in settings
where the hardware and/or its interface is not commonly used (or even
unique), or evolving, or blocked because it is used for other business, such
as - in the context of European XFEL - new scientific experiments. In cooperation
with University of Szeged, in this set of projects, the aim is to develop hardware and experiment simulators
that can be used to feed the control and analysis software as if they would
be controlling and reading data from the real hardware of the facility.
Combined with versioning of the simulated hardware, this will free us from
having to use the real hardware for development and provide a flexible
virtual test environment that allows, for example, to investigate bugs in
particular versions, and to better support reproducible science.
