A kutatási téma leírása:

"The main purpose of the project is to create a novel hardver (including 12-24 well MEA plates and the hardware necessary for data recording and automated data analysis) which enables the long-term measurements of electrically active cell cultures, including mouse neuronal cultures or iPS-derived human cardiac muscle cells. Our ultimate goal is to create and produce a complete system which is suitable for the automated analyses and long-term (several day-long) testing of pharmacological compounds on human iPS-derived cell cultures. For the time being and the initial test phase, we work on mouse primary neuronal cell cultures but it is planned to extend our cell culture system towards iPS-derived cardiac muscle cells in the future, as well. Besides basic research aims, the project has a strong industrial background as within the near future (<2-3 years) we intend to produce a commercially available system. Currently, we are working on the prototype which should be finished within this year.
The successful candidate needs to have a solid background in cell biology and very strong motivations to participate in industrial-based projects, including the preparation of regular reports and having good collaborative skills with our industrial partners and also, with the lab members. (S)he has to carry out the preparation and cultivation of primary hippocampal neurons; to test the attachment and development of neurons to different test surfaces; to perform immunocytochemical stainings and confocal microscopy to quantitatively evaluate different test surfaces; to assist in electrophysiological recordings and data analyses as well as in product development.
This project is a collaboration between neurobiologists, biophysicists and engineers so the ideal candidate will have an interdisciplinary training. Besides the industrial cooperation, there are several aspects of product development which are suitable for publication - in fact, our first publication is already under preparation. There is suitable funding for the project, provided by the Excellence program of our University, by the Hungarian Brain Research Program and also, by industrial investors to Appercell, the start-up company (see https://appercell.com/)"
