Today, Iraqi cities faces major environmental and energy challenges [1]. Extreme hot and dry climate is causing an increase in the intensity of the urban heat islands and lead to discomfort in urban spaces as well as increase energy demand for cooling and air conditioning in indoor spaces which lead to increase air pollution in outdoor spaces [2]–[4]. In addition, most of the current urban patterns existed (build up areas) have been developed on the basis of modern planning practices which were imported from western contexts, where cold and moderate climates are prevalent without consideration to extreme local climates in hot-arid regions. This lead to aggravate the problems [5]–[7].
