A kutatási téma leírása:
Priority regulations for bicycles crossing roundabout legs vary from country to country. In urban areas in Hungary vehicles entering or exiting roundabouts should yield to pedestrians, however, bicycles should yield to both traffic streams. Recently it has been found that in certain regions vehicles simply show a priority surrendering behavior, and bicycles show a priority taking behavior. This phenomenon might cause confusion for road participants and also has capacity implications, which are currently not taken into account in design guidelines. This research aims at analyzing both the safety and capacity aspects of the current regulations as well as the consequences of changing them. Safety will be investigated by means of surrogate measures of safety gained from video analysis using the T-Analyst software developed by Lund University, Sweden. Capacity implications will be investigated using microsimulation in Vissim. A conclusion on whether changing the design guidelines and under what conditions is expected.
