Organocatalysis is a rapidly emerging research area in modern synthetic chemistry, where small organic molecules are applied to activate the reactants. Despite the large body of successful asymmetric organocatalytic reactions reported in the past decade, our knowledge of the mechanistic details is still fairly limited. Our research efforts are targeted toward the exploration of activation pathways and toward the identification of the factors that determine the rate and the selectivity of these reactions. These goals are pursued in collaboration with synthetic chemists.
