Graphene is considered a promising material for several applications e.g. anodes for lithium ion batteries, solar cells and fuel cells. Preparation of graphene from graphene oxides results usually in a structure with defects, decreasing conductivity and increasing the band gap. On the other hand, defect sites can facilitate the chemical modification of graphene to achieve novel properties, opening new fields of application. The PhD student will work with the help of computational chemistry methods, investigating the electronic structure and reactivity changes around the crystal defect sites
