A kutatási téma leírása:
The renewable and biodegradable cellulose is the most abundant natural biopolymer on earth. Recently, the research concentrates on the new and promising nanomaterials, either extracted from cellulosic biomass with hydrolysis and named cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs), or fermented by aerobe bacteria as a hydrogel with a network structure of cellulose nanofibres named bacterial nanocellulose (BC). While CNCs are needle-shaped crystalline fibrils, BC is composed of nano-sized fibrils.
The aim is to develop innovative bio-based materials with specific (multi)functionalities for different but well-defined applications, using CNCs and BC. This will be achieved by controlling their physical-mechanical properties, and further application without or in the present of synergetically-acting inorganic nanoparticles and/or other biopolymers into self-standing films or their deposition onto different topo-chemical surfaces, being carried out through different coating technologies, allowing to tailor materials properties and behaviour. By this, the fabrication of novel highly added-value products is expected to be achieved, providing breakthrough innovations for specific applications: i.e. films, packaging films/foils, membranes and improved textiles with special functionalities.
