A kutatási téma leírása:

The proposed research aims to study graft union assessment to diagnose compatibility/ incompatibility of grape rootstock-scion by biochemical markers and to understand interaction of rootstock-scion on phenolic compounds of table grape berries grown in the Hungary. This project will further attempt to evaluate the effect of rootstock and phenolic compounds on the colour of table grape berries. Finally, impact of rootstock on storage quality of table grape berries for better consumer acceptability will be focused.
Currently, there are no studies which define compatibility with respect to biochemical markers i.e.phenol compounds, starch at the union, below and above the union, specific polypeptide, peroxidase activity; even though, compatibility of grape rootstocks (Stanko Vrsic et al., 2015) and effect of different rootstocks on phenolic compounds in pistachio cultivars (Nazi Nadernejad et al., 2013) were well studied. Since there are supporting studies and research gap to rootstock-scion interaction, however, lacking its effect on table grape phenolic compound after grafting assessment which will be focused in the proposed project using state-of-art facilities.
The Department of Horticulture is dealing with grape rootstock evaluation, breeding and scion interaction studies since 1970’s. We have already established plantations, protocol to determine phenolic compounds, anthocyanin content, and primary quality attributes of table grapes. Storage facility is available at the Department as well. Breeding effort on the field of seedless table grapes and rootstocks are in progress. We will cooperate with other Department laboratories of the University of Pannonia to achieve deep chemical analysis of interesting compounds.
