I am seeking PhD candidates interested in plant science, especially in the biochemistry and the regulation of physiological processes. Iron deficiency is a serious problem in the agriculture worldwide that limits the crop production, but also has human nutritional issues. In higher plants, iron is required for both the biosynthesis and the proper function of the photosynthetic apparatus. Hence, the majority of the shoot iron content is localised in the chloroplasts, mainly in the thylakoids. Nevertheless, a proper iron homeostasis also covers iron translocation into developing tissues as well as into seeds. In connection with the aging of lateral organs, some nutrients mobilise, but the remobilisation of iron and the regulation of its retaranslocation is still debate and planned to be revealed in this project. The research project is supported by different grants, among others by that of the National Institute of Research, Development and Innovation, Hungary.
