With the rapid development of industrialization and urbanization, landscape fragmentation have become important issues. The natural ecosystem is divided by artificial landscapes and individual large-scale patches are isolated and scattered to small patches. The fragmentation of ecosystem habitats have restricted the migration of species and hindered gene exchange among populations. All these factors have accelerated the loss of ecosystem functions. Studies show that maintaining a high degree of landscape connectivity can reduce the risk of fragmented populations. An optimized urban ecological network and spatial pattern is of great significance for the sustainable development of urban ecosystem. The general goal is to solve the problems, or at least mitigate the disadvantageous effects of urbanization. The research area concentrates on urban and rural landscapes. The research aims to discover the spatial-temporal changes and the relationship of landscape patterns based on the theory of Landscape Ecology, Island Biogeography, Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning, and Remote Sensing. Then proposals are applied to optimize the ecological network and guide planning of urban and rural ecosystem based on the results.
