Kosovo remains among the poorest countries in Europe, with an average annual per capita income of less than $2,500 over the last decade. Kosovo has always been the less developed areas of the former Yugoslavia, and the country still bears the impacts of the Balkan conflicts. Despite the dominant support coming from international communities to foster development and reconstruction, the underdeveloped rural agriculture and the shortage of utilization of mineral property are equally typical tendency of the county. Agriculture and its development has a strong relationship with the rural population, its migration and the standard of living. In Kosovo, 2/3 of the population lives on rural areas. Moreover, agriculture has the potential to employ those ones, who are less educated, the poor and the deprived ones. In Kosovo, agriculture provides jobs for approximately 42% of the population, primarily on an informal basis. The management and the development of the agricultural labour force is vital to echance both the sector and the life of those ones, who earn their living from the sector.
Management as a discipline has long tradition in dealing and treating human labour, still, few current analysis, even on international level deal with the management and organization of the agricultural labour. It is even more important when we are facing such difficult circumstances that appear in a less developed country, like Kosovo. The topic of the proposed PhD project is to try to improve the management of agricultural employment in the country, and by doing this try to contribure the development of the country and its population itself. From a general point of view, through which the applicant will reveal general statistical data and tries to draft a current secondary analysis of the agricultural sector’s employment features, it is also required to carry out a deeper analysis on one or some deicated specific managerial functions, which will be highlighted by the former secondary analysis. Specific fields of interest may be the following:
-How agricultural management may be described from a general point of view? What managerial fields are practiced and what are those which may not be experienced at all?
-What is the relationship between rural areas and the agriculture, how agricultural engagement influences the life of the rural areas?
-How traditional and modern organization techniques influence the performance of the agricultural organizations?
-Whather organizational development leverages are necessary to improve agricultural management?
Regarding research methods, both empirical and non empirical examinations are required and the student will have to bear a certain level of agricultural education. From practical and professional reasons, applications are awaited mainly from international studens coming from Kosovo.
