A kutatási téma leírása:
The
proposed investigation
will be focused on copper as metallic substrate
, and efforts will be performed to
characterize
the nature of the resulting films on the metal after the interaction with the organic molecules, the
mechanism of passive layer formation and passivity breakdown and eventual re
-
passivation will be investigated
further. These surface films are responsible
for the passive state of the metallic system, and their breakdown
lead to
corrosion.

assembly (SAM and LB layers)
will also be explored as a procedure for corrosion inhibition on copper
.

study
,
the interaction, adsorption and inhibition efficiency, of new potential inhibitors (alkyl
hydroxamic acids) with
copper
surfaces will be investigated in order to evaluate the stability of the organic
molecules, and the chemical composition a
nd structure of the surface films formed on the metal electrodes.
Special attention will be devoted to the analysis of local effects and surface distribution by the combination of
techniques recently introduced in the corrosion laboratory such as the elect
rochemical quartz nanobalance
(EQCM), and the scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM), which are capable of monitoring the changes
in mass related to the formation and removal of surface films, as well as to detect local differences in
electrochemical a
ctivity in the metal surface. The correlation structure and efficiency will be determined
using a
quantum chemical study.
B

that electrochemical (EIS, Polarization) and surface an
alytical (AFM, ESEM) techniques will be applied
in order to
characterise
the inhibition
process
