helyszín rövidítés: PT

A kutatási téma leírása:

a.) Antecedents: Nowadays the application of polymer matrix composites and hybrid composites is exceptionally intensive in energetics (wind turbines), transportation (airplane aerodynamic elements) and other high profile applications. Serious effort is invested in the structural health monitoring (SHM) of these high value parts, but because of their complex structure it is very troublesome.
b.) Aim of research: During the PhD research after the modelling of the microstructure of the hybrid systems the nonlinear characteristics of light impact damaged structures will be investigated. By implementing the results into the model the dynamic behaviour of the damaged structures can be predicted, which gives an opportunity for SHM application.
c.) Tasks, main items, necessary time:
• Literature review in the field of microstructure of polymer nano and hybrid composites, modelling of cracked, delaminated structures and applicable SHM methods. (approx. 6 months)
• Evaluation of hybrid composite material properties for representative volume element (RVE) modelling. Preparation of glass and carbon fiber reinforced hybrid composites, evaluation of parameters required for modelling. Development of finite element model for hybrid composites. (approx. 14 months)
• Investigation of structural damage caused by dynamic effects. Preparation of damaged composite structures by light impacts, investigation of their mechanical properties, comparison with undamaged properties. (approx. 8 months)
• Modification of the FE model for application for damaged sturcures. (approx. 4 months)
• Validation of the FE model, investigation of applicability for SHM. (approx.. 4 months)
d.) Required equipment: All the necessary testing and other equipment are available at the laboratory of the Department.
e.) Expected scientific results: Extensive description of the mechanical behaviour of damaged structures, development of FE model. Development of SHM method based on the FEA and test results.
