A kutatási téma leírása:

The experimental and numerical investigations performed in the recent
years made it clear that deformation properties of micron and sub-micron
sized specimens differ fundamentally from those of macroscopic samples.
At this size scale plastic deformation is characterised by large
spatio-temporal fluctuations (called dislocation avalanches). The aim of
the PhD research is to investigate the background of this
technologically rather important issue. The results of the last few
years suggest that strong and long-range dynamical correlations build up
in dislocation systems. The task of the applicant will be to determine
these correlations in dislocation systems of different levels of
complexity, and to understand the role of various material features
(such as vacancies, grain boundaries, specimen size) in this phenomenon.
In addition, a complex statistical model will be derived based on the
results that properly captures the avalanche behaviour.
