Description of the research topic:

Autophagy is indispensable for maintenaning the homeodynamic balance of eukaryotic cells and organisms, and its misregulation is responsible for numerous human diseases. We aim to identify new binding partners of core Atg proteins and the SNARE Syntaxin 17 responsible for autophagosomes formation and fusion, respectively, based on a proteomics approach. We use Drosophila as a model, which allows the functional characterization of new hits with the help of our existing tools for the genetic, biochemical and microscopy-based assays. The autophagic function of the given gene will be further analyzed during aging, neuromuscular function, intestinal stem cell biology and salivary gland development. The exact research topic will be specified based on the results of ongoing experiments.
