Description of the research topic:

The autosegmental-metrical (AM) approach to intonational phonology started with Pierrehumbert’s dissertation (1980) and has by now become the main trend in the international study of intonational phonology. The aim of the dissertation is to create a comprehensive Hungarian intonational phonology which is compatible with the mainstream AM analyses of intonation in other languages, and which, relying on and challenging the existing Hungarian and foreign literature, contributes to the clarification of disputed issues of the theory. A (near-)native command of English and Hungarian is necessary
