Description of the research topic:

Since the 70's, the gaseous particle detectors have been mandatory elements of the large high energy physics detector systems. With the advent of improved amplification structures, reliable simulation tools and high performance electronics, the developments took a new pace in the last two decades, allowing higher rate
capability, high reliability and radiation tolerance. The purpose of the research within the scope of the present PhD project is generic development, diagnostic methodology and understanding the fundamental detection processes in these systems of said detectors, with special focus on theoretical improvements, numerical simulation
validations and data analysis. Modern technologies, such as high density circuit production and 3D printing, can improve both the new and the classical structures.
A relevant application of tracking detectors is cosmic particle imaging, with broad range of applications in geosciences, mining, engineering or metrology. In addition the doctoral research is expected to contribute to the Muon ID system of the ALICE-3 detector at CERN, which is a frontier relativistic heavy ion collider experiment, expected to start around 2030. The MuonID is a unique system with a relatively thin absorber to capture low energy muons, leading to design and analysis challenges.
