Description of the research topic:

Single-photon sources are essential for several experiments and applications in quantum information processing and photonic quantum technology. Analysis of multiplexed single-photon sources showed that such sources are characterized by high single-photon probability together with low multiphoton noise, and they are capable of generating indistinguishable photons. Recently it was shown that in real systems chatacterized by various losses the output single-photon probability can be maximized by determining the optimal number of multiplexed units and the optimal average number of photon pairs generated in the units. The aim of the planned research is the development of methods capable of further increasing the single-photon probability of the sources. The task is to investigate the possibility of increasing the single-photon probability of spatially multiplexed single-photon sources based on multiplexers with optimized structure by assuming and optimizing different input mean photon numbers in the individual multiplexed units. The task incorporates the development of numerical techniques for the optimization and the analysis.
