Abbreviation of location of studies: SZTE

Description of the research topic:

The patterns of our daily motion are actively examined in many different scientific fields. These include the study and statistical analysis of the dynamics of spatial movement based on location data, or the measurement and analysis of physical activity for similar purposes, or its medical diagnostic applications, including the detection of sleep or mental disorders. The actigraphs developed for this purpose determine a measure characterizing activity based on a three-way acceleration signal at certain time intervals. Although the methodology of this should be standardized, the activity calculation methods used in various devices and studies are not uniform, nor are they properly documented.
The staff of the Department of Technical Informatics have developed an actigraph device that, by recording the raw acceleration signal, enables the application of various activity calculation methods offline. In cooperation with psychiatrists and biophysical researchers, we examined the relationship between activity signals calculated from measured acceleration data using different preprocessing methods and activity metrics. We also achieved new results regarding the general spectral characteristics of the acceleration and activity signals. The applicant's task is to carry out further tests to understand the relationship between activity and raw acceleration signals, as well as a more detailed examination of their spectral characteristics, and to study its relationship with scale-independent phenomena known in the field of human mobility. This requires the processing of measured data, the development of algorithms, spectral and statistical analysis, as well as the creation of models, numerical simulations and measurements as necessary.
