Description of the research topic:

Due to the increasing bacterial resistance after antibiotic treatment of bovine puerperal uterine infections and its human consequences it is required to find new ways that enable the reduction or replacement of antibiotics when treating these diseases.
Alternative methods and/or experimental products will be selected and their efficacy and safety will be tested as well as their dosing and administration protocols will be elaborated on multiparous dairy cows with puerperal uterine infections. Effectiveness of standard treatment protocols and alternative methods, e.g. antibiotics, hormones and complementary products or their combination will be compared. Cattle farms will be selected based on various production parameters and on the frequency of postpartum uterine diseases and categorized into high, medium and low incidences. The effect of farm status on the expected effectiveness of different treatment protocols. based on the incidence of uterine diseases will be evaluated together with the local calving and hygienic circumstances.
