Description of the research topic:

Urban areas around the world face a growing issue - the intensification of flood risk due to the effects of rapid urbanization and climate change. The focus on economic growth in the past has often led to cities being built without considering their resilience, making them more vulnerable to floods. This lack of resilience has far-reaching consequences, affecting not only physical damage but also public health, social dynamics, and economic stability. With climate change exacerbating the problem, there is a need for a change in approach towards urban resilience strategies that include not only infrastructure but also social, economic, and environmental aspects. To address this issue, this research proposes several methods. These include conducting a comprehensive review of existing literature on urban resilience, flood risk management, and the impacts of climate change, analysing historical urban development patterns to determine their correlation with flood vulnerability, and assessing current flood risks and vulnerabilities in selected urban areas using GIS mapping and modelling.
