Description of the research topic:
The Palaeogene is an important period of Earth's history, marked by significant environmental change. Dynamically changing climatic conditions, from climatic optimum to glaciation, were linked to the evolution of atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations and profoundly influenced ocean circulation systems and the evolution and biogeographic patterns of biota. The research project will use the powerful tools of micropaleontology to reconstruct the processes that influence the paleoenvironment. This will help to reveal the impact of climate change, sea-level fluctuations and geological processes related to the Alpine orogeny in the Central Paratethys and its sub-basins. The new stratigraphic and paleoenvironmental data on sedimentary formations may also be of interest for hydrocarbon and geothermal exploration. The specific and detailed research plan will be developed in consultation with the applicant.
