Description of the research topic:

a.) Preliminaries:

Large amounts of electricity storage are needed to accommodate weather-dependent renewable electricity generation capacity. Furthermore, one of the challenges of EU and national policies and strategies is to increase the growing need for flexibility of the electricity system in the face of rapidly changing load conditions, which can be enabled by the production and use of hydrogen in combination with natural gas or directly.

b.) Aim of research:

Determining which - fast-loading - electricity generating units (fuel cells, gas turbines and gas engines) should be used for specific applications and which are the criteria for the use of future "green" hydrogen

c.) Tasks, main items, necessary time:

Review and critical analysis of literature and available data (1 semester). Development of measurement system and measurements (2 semesters). Evaluation of measurements and analysis of results (2 semesters). Exploration of correlations, publication, and preparation of thesis (3 semesters).

d.) Required equipment:

Hydrogen supply of available instruments and further development of the measurement system, access to literature and databases, mathematical/simulation software

e.) Expected scientific results:

To review the different ways of using hydrogen and to work out which equipment to choose for which applications.
